This ongoing project focuses on artworks and films left unfinished during their production in revolutionary Iran. Initiated in 2014, it aims to highlight and explore the extensive body of incomplete works created in Iran during the 1970s and 1980s. Building on the theoretical concept of incompletion, the project has developed an archive of artworks and films that never reached their intended conclusion, accompanied by critical writing on the subject.
The project lead to the production of the dissertation Unfinsihed, Art, Film and Revolution in Iran 1979 as well as multiple peer reviewed and publications, in various journals and anthologies, such as Counter-Memories in Iranian Cinema (Edinburgh University Press – 2021), Archive of Incomplete (Frontiers, A Journal of Women Studies – 2020), Film Undone; Elements of Latent Cinema (Archive Books – 2024), Militant Documentary and May 1968 in the World (Slovenian Cinematheque – 2019).
A film based on this project is currently in development.
